Here's a few tips you should know:

• Avoid contact with household chemicals, perspiration, chlorinated water, or any substances which contain sulfur as these will as cause tarnish.

• Allow lotions, perfumes, hair spray and other cosmetics to dry before putting on your silver pieces, as chemicals in these items may accelerate tarnishing.

• Remove sterling silver jewelry before you go swimming and sunbathing.

• Store in an airtight container or bag when not wearing. Exposure to humidity can tarnish your pieces faster.

• Don't use a commercial jewelry tarnish cleaner, as these can destroy porous gemstones and pearls.

• Your jewelry can be spot cleaned with a jewelry polishing cloth

• For bigger polishing jobs, use white vinegar and baking soda. Soak the tarnished piece in a solution of 1/2 cup white vinegar and 2 tbsp. baking soda for two to three hours, then rinse and dry completely.
